Last week I was in South Jersey visiting a friend. We went over to Delaware for a couple of hours, I left my car in the street (twice as wide as my towns streets) and came back to this -
A neighbor backed into it. Denies is could’ve been them but they were the only ones around to do it. No solid proof means I can’t do anything though. Rear door is pretty bashed in. I tried to suction it out but it didn’t really work. Took it to a shop for a estimate but the guy working says the reinforcement bar in the door would more than most likely be bent and I would need a whole new door. It’s really discouraging. I’m waiting for the police report now and I’ll have to go through insurance. This means I’ll be losing my Tokyo skyline too, the thing that really makes my Cube stand out/extra riced.
But once all of this is fixed and all the decals are stripped, I think I’m gonna have it wrapped in a nice bright green color. And maybe restart the RiceCube as the BosoBox instead.

The damage doesn’t look too bad. As long as the door still opens and closes OK, there is nothing to worry about :)

Looks are deceiving, there’s a ton of very small creases in addition to 3 big ones. Plus I’ve put way too much time and money into the Cube to just let that go.

Why not...leave it alone?

Curious, where in South Jersey were you?

Interesting, that’s about an hour from me in the middle of nowhere I believe.

Honestly I’d open the door up and try to push it out. Yea its a safety issue having a bent crash bar but whatevs, I try to avoid insurance claims when possible.
Super hard to find a rear door diagram, but just FYI all doors have big holes to get window regulator/locks/etc. out. It’ll cost nothing but time and since it would be replaced anyways you cant make it worse.

It is pretty much bumblefuck but his house is 3 blocks from the Del. Memorial Bridge. Took this literally down the street:

It’s his pride and joy, he is turning it into a show car. He wants it to be perfect. A smashed-in door is just not acceptable for his standards. I can fully understand him.
If it was me with my 17 y/o Accord, I’d bitch and moan but learn to live with it.

Shit sucks! Any chance of making them pay? Like was there paint transfer or anything to help your case?

Bummer! You might be able to pop that out from inside the door though.

Nope, nothing at all. And the suspected vehicle is pretty destroyed (dented, scratched, plastic bags for windows) so pinpointing a dent from my car would be impossible. I’m SOL here.

Klaus hit the nail on the head. I’ve invested a lot of time and money into this Cube. Not one mod was done by a shop, everything was done with my fathers help in the driveway. It means too much to me to just let it be ruined by some dent.

My concern would be, if that didn’t work before the insurance company saw it, would they know I botched a quick fix and cause a problem?

At first I didn’t see the dent, and I thought somebody put that vinyl on your car.

Easy, just slap a Godzilla sticker on it

Have you consulted one of the dentless repair people aka The Ding Dr? Last car had a pretty bad crease ding at one month old they made it look like new. Current car was damaged at one week with two vertical creases half and inch apart....can’t tell anymore once they were done....Its worth a try especially if there is little or no damage to the paint...here is a link to the guy I use....I swear he is a magician.
